End-of-Bed Bench: Style and Function
Purpose
An end-of-bed bench provides seating for dressing, a place to lay clothes while getting ready, and a visual anchor for the bedroom. It fills the space between the bed and the wall or window without blocking traffic.
Sizing
The bench should be 6-12 inches narrower than the bed width. A queen bed (60 inches wide) needs a 48-54 inch bench. Height should match the mattress top or be 2-4 inches lower. Depth: 16-20 inches.
Style Options
- Upholstered: comfortable seating, adds softness and color
- Wood: durable, matches dresser or bed frame
- Storage bench: lift-top or shelves underneath for blankets
- Acrylic/lucite: modern, visually lightweight, suits small rooms
Placement Tips
Leave 24-30 inches between the bench and the wall or furniture opposite the bed. This allows comfortable walking space. Center the bench on the bed for symmetry. Add a throw blanket draped across one end for casual styling.
