Fire Pit Seating: Layout Ideas

The Circle

Arrange seating in a full circle for equal heat and conversation. Best for 4–8 people. Place seats 5–6 feet from fire center.

The Semicircle

Seating on one side facing a view or garden. Works near walls or property lines. Best for 3–6 people.

Mixed Seating

• Adirondack chairs: classic fire pit seating
• Built-in bench: permanent with storage underneath
• Outdoor sofa: for larger groups at the back
• Stools: casual perching spots

Safety Distances

Maintain 3 feet between fire pit and seating. For wood-burning pits, increase to 4 feet for sparks. Never place seating directly downwind.

Lighting

Avoid overhead lights competing with fire glow. Use path lights, string lights in trees (8–10 feet up), or solar stakes at the perimeter.
