Hammock Setup: Stand vs Trees vs Posts
Tree Hanging (Most Popular)
Use tree straps (not rope—they damage bark). Hang at a 30-degree angle, 18 inches off the ground when loaded. Trees should be 12-15 feet apart for standard hammocks.
Stands (Most Portable)
- No trees needed—place anywhere
- Steel stands: $80-200, support 400-500 lbs
- Wood stands: $200-400, more aesthetic
- Foldable: pack for camping or move seasonally
Dedicated Posts (Most Permanent)
Set 4x4 pressure-treated posts in concrete, 14 feet apart, 7 feet tall. Most stable option. Requires digging and 48 hours for concrete to cure. Best for dedicated relaxation spots.
Safety Tips
Never hang from dead or diseased trees. Check straps annually for UV degradation. Weight capacity should exceed users by 100+ lbs. Keep hammocks at least 18 inches above ground when loaded.
