Choosing the Right Size

Console tables for entryways should be 30-36 inches tall (counter height), 36-48 inches wide, and 10-14 inches deep. Narrow depth is critical—entryways need walkway clearance. A 12-inch deep console leaves plenty of passage space.

The Rule of Three (Again)

Style the top with three elements: something tall (lamp or vase, 18-24 inches), something medium (framed photo or tray), and something small (candle or decorative object). This creates visual hierarchy without clutter.

Functional Styling

• Key tray or dish: corral keys and small items
• Mail organizer: sort incoming and outgoing mail
• Basket underneath: shoes, scarves, or bags
• Mirror above: last-minute appearance check

Lighting

A table lamp on the console adds ambient light to the entryway. Choose a lamp 24-28 inches tall (total with shade). Dimmable options allow bright light for finding items and soft light for evening ambiance.
