Media Console: Size and Style Guide

Media Console: Size and Style Guide

By Sophie Laurent ·

Sizing for Your TV

The console should be at least 6 inches wider than your TV on each side. A 65-inch TV (57 inches wide) needs a 69-inch minimum console. This prevents a top-heavy appearance and provides space for speakers and decor.

Height Considerations

Media consoles are typically 24-30 inches tall. Choose based on your seating position: the TV center should be at eye level when seated. Lower consoles (24 inches) suit low-profile sofas; taller ones (30 inches) work with higher seating.

Storage Configurations

Open Shelving

Best for components that need ventilation (receivers, gaming consoles). Easy access to cables. Shows clutter.

Closed Cabinets

Hides electronics and media collections. May need ventilation holes for heat-generating components. Cleaner look.

Mixed

Open center for main components, closed sides for storage. Most versatile option.

Cable Management

Look for consoles with rear cable ports (2+ inches diameter), built-in power strip compartments, and removable back panels for easy wiring access.
