TV Stand Sizing for Every Screen

TV Stand Sizing for Every Screen

By Taryn Moore ·

Width Rule

Your TV stand should extend 3 inches beyond the TV on each side. A 55-inch TV (48 inches wide) needs a 54-inch minimum stand. This prevents top-heavy looks and adds space for speakers.

Height: Eye Level

TV center should be at eye level when seated—typically 42 inches from the floor. Subtract half the TV height. For a 55-inch TV (27 inches tall), stand should be 28–30 inches.

Depth Requirements

Weight Capacity

A 65-inch TV weighs 40–60 lbs. Most stands rated 100+ lbs work. Check glass shelves and floating units for lower limits.

Storage

Open shelving suits media and gaming. Closed cabinets hide clutter but restrict airflow. Adjustable shelves fit varying component heights. Cable management holes keep wiring organized.
