Home Office Lighting: Reduce Eye Strain

By Taryn Moore ·

The Problem with Overhead-Only

Single overhead lights create harsh shadows and screen glare. Layered lighting solves this.

Task Light: Desk Lamp

Position to the side opposite your mouse hand. Use warm-white (3000-4000K) bulbs.

Ambient Light

Replace harsh overhead with diffused or indirect lighting. Aim for 300-500 lux at desk level.

Screen Bias Lighting

An LED strip behind your monitor reduces contrast and cuts eye strain.

Natural Light

Position desk perpendicular to windows, not facing or backing them.

Color Temperature Schedule

Cool white (4000-5000K) during work. Warm white (2700-3000K) after 6 PM.
