Kitchen Pantry Organization Systems
Zone Your Pantry
Divide into functional zones: everyday items at eye level, heavy items on bottom shelves, rarely-used items up top, snacks in a dedicated basket, and baking supplies grouped together.
Shelving Solutions
- Lazy Susans: Corner shelves that rotate, eliminating dead space ($15-40)
- Step shelf risers: Create 2-3 tiers on deep shelves so nothing hides in back ($10-25)
- Door-mounted racks: Utilize the inside of pantry door for spices and small items ($15-30)
- Pull-out baskets: Slide-out bins for deep pantries ($20-50 each)
Container Strategy
Transfer dry goods (pasta, rice, cereal) into uniform clear containers. Label with contents and expiration date. Use square containers (not round) to maximize shelf space—round containers waste 20% of shelf area.
The FIFO Rule
First In, First Out. When restocking, move older items to the front. This reduces food waste and ensures nothing expires hidden at the back of the shelf.
