Outdoor Furniture Covers Buying Guide
Protecting Your Investment
Quality outdoor furniture is expensive, and exposure to sun, rain, and debris accelerates wear. Proper covers extend the life of your furniture by years and keep it looking new between seasons.
Material Matters Most
Polyester with PU Coating
The most common and affordable option. Look for 600D (denier) or higher for durability. PU coating provides water resistance. Expect 2-4 years of use before replacement.
Solution-Dyed Acrylic (Sunbrella)
Premium covers that resist UV fading, mildew, and water. They cost 2-3x more but last 5-8 years. Best for expensive furniture you want to protect long-term.
Vinyl and PVC
Waterproof but prone to cracking in extreme temperatures. Better for mild climates. Avoid in areas with freezing winters or intense summer heat.
Fit and Features
- Vented panels prevent condensation buildup underneath
- Elastic hems or drawstrings keep covers secure in wind
- Soft inner lining prevents scratches on furniture surfaces
- Handles make removal and reinstallation easier
Custom vs. Universal Fit
Universal covers are cheaper but may not fit snugly. Custom-fit covers cost more but stay in place and look neater. For oddly shaped pieces, custom is worth the investment.
