Winter Storage Tips for Outdoor Furniture

By David Armstrong ·

Pre-Winter Preparation

Clean thoroughly before storing or covering. Dirt and moisture trapped under covers cause mold and corrosion.

Cleaning by Material

Wood (Teak, Cedar)

Wash with mild soap and water. Dry 24-48 hours. Apply teak oil before storage. Never wrap in plastic — traps moisture.

Metal (Aluminum, Steel)

Wash and dry. Touch up paint chips to prevent rust. Apply car wax to aluminum for extra protection.

Wicker (Resin)

Hose off and scrub with soapy water. Can stay outdoors with cover, but bringing inside extends lifespan.

Covering vs Storing

Cover Selection

Choose breathable, waterproof covers with vents. Non-breathable covers trap condensation. Secure with straps or bungee cords.
